Balance between art for art's sake and art for an audience

English Rock Group member Queen ’s guitarist & sometimes vocalist Brian May made an interesting quote and observation in his website a few days ago. My husband is a long time fan of Queen and their music and he has been reading Brian May’s blog in his website and told me about it. Here's Brian May's quote . " One needs to find a balance between art for art's sake and art for an audience. That's where the magic happens. Because if you stray too far from that line on either side, the result is not very useful. If you're doing things purely to get famous or to make money, they tend to be very empty. But on the other side of the line is, if you do things purely for art's sake and nobody ever gets to see them or appreciate them, then you're not using your art as communication — which I believe it should be. " This is an interesting point of view about success and Brian May is a member of one of the top legendary rock groups,

Adam Lambert will be the singer of Queen ?

I remember that while Ray was watching American Idol, he said Brian May and Roger Taylor who are members of the English rock group Queen, asked Adam Lambert who was in the American Idol show if he would be interested to be the singer for Queen. Seems like Paul Rodgers and Queen already broke up after 4 years together. And they might be looking for a new singer for Queen. When I first saw Adam Lambert in American Idol, somehow he reminds me of Emanuel Sandhu who is a Canadian figure skater . I don’t know why, but he really reminds me of Sandhu. Even though their faces are different, but hair style and looks are something similar. And we noticed Lambert is a great singer, and it may be great if he joins Queen as lead singer. Paul Rodgers is a great singer who has nice voice, but I thought he was not really fit with Queen’s music. I like Paul Roger’s some of his solo songs, but with Queen, Ray and I both already had the strong impression of Freddie Mercury’s stage performances

Queen Freddie Mercury

Freddie Mercury comes from Neptune ???

I found a funny quote from the Queen interview that made me laugh a lot yesterday. Last week, a British television show interviewed Brian May and Roger Taylor. Here is the quote, British television interviewer : What are some of the differences between Freddie Mercury and Paul Rodgers ? ROGER TAYLOR: Paul is so unlike Freddie in so many ways. He really comes from the Blues , and Freddie comes from........uhh.......... ....... uhh.....................'Neptune'. (laughter) BRIAN MAY: Actually, Freddie probably came from Mercury. ( laughter) ROGER TAYLOR: Yeah. Maybe Mercury. Yeah ( laughter ) BRIAN MAY: Some things about Freddie were always a mystery to me. We never knew what his next idea for a song would be. Because it was always so different. Actually, some of the greatest heavy guitar parts on Queen songs were composed by Freddie. For example " Ogre Battle ". And also the heavy metal part of Bohemian Rhapsody, which he compo

Queen - Freddie Mercury was a genius

Freddie Mercury I didn't know about Freddie Mercury except the name of English rock group " Queen" until a year ago. Queen  is famous all over the world. But maybe I didn't know much about them because Freddie's looking was not my type and so had never paid attention to him and Queen. I'll get back to Queen in a minute, but first, a little background about my music interests. I have been big fan of Japanese rock group " The Alfee " for a long time . Once I saw their live concert, it was really difficult to get big impression with other musicians' music. Because all of Alfee's music is very unique and variety, rock, classic, heavy metal (classic style), dancing, acoustic, and also simple music when they need to make a music for TV drama and movie. Their live event set was always amazing , big fireworks, colorful spot lights were always beautiful. Their lead guitarist is Toshihiko Takamizawa , and he is also the composer of al
