3. Mystic Seer ( Nick of time )
This story is about a newly young marriage couple who go into a cafĆ© restaurant and there was a little toy machine called āmystic seerā at their table, with instructions on it that say that , for a penny, it will tell the future.
Like a fortune cookie.
The husband is curious so he tries it and puts a penny into the toy, asking a question about whether he had gotten the promotion today that he had been trying for. And the answer was ā it has been decided in your favor ā.
He then calls his company in the cafĆ© pay phone and asks about it, and finds out that itās true he really got the promotion.
At this point, the husband starts asking many more questions. And everything the mystic seer answers to him turns out to be true.
So he becomes even more crazy, like obsessed, to ask many questions, such as where to live, west or east or north or south.
The wife gets fed up with his actions and tells him they should not be a slave of this machine, they can create their own life by themselves.
Soon, the husband realizes what sheās saying, and they both leave the cafĆ©, independent, of their own free will, to make their own life.
I personally had that personality part, like the husband in this story, when I tried something similar.
When I was a school student, there was a popular game which we write all the Japanese letters ( Hiragana ) and numbers and also, yes and no section on the paper.
And using a coin, two people put their pointing fingers on the coin together and
asking questions by calling a special spirit. And the coin started moving around on the paper without putting any power from ourselves.
We were asking many kinds of questions about love, romance, the result of examination, or our future.
Until we found the true answer was incorrect , we continued to do it.
It was trendy at schools, I think many school students did that kind of thing in Japan.
Or tarot card. And I discovered that itās mostly your present subconscious mind reflected into the cards.
For tarot cards, and many other Asian fortune- telling methods, I took a class and graduated for it and was working as a professional fortune-teller for a while.
I donāt do it anymore except for personalities and feng shui.
But I thought tarot cards are very mystery and I still love it even though I donāt use it anymore.
Some people have like a mask on their face, and donāt show their true feeling, but cards shows it clearly.
Strong belief becomes reality.
4. Eye of the beholder
This story shows how a childās mind can be brainwashed, and by extension, an entire culture can grow up to believe a certain way, or see things a certain way, and therefore can not change their minds and view , easily. This message can be applied for many topics.
Basically, ā Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder ā is the theme of this episode.
A lady who is at hospital has been told she is ugly and has been bandaged around her face for a long time, so as people will not see her ugliness . And she was waiting for plastic surgery.
And after she does it, they still couldnāt fix it, no change. However after her face is shown, itās revealed that her face is actually averagely beautiful and we then see the faces of the others and we realize that the nurses and doctors in the hospital are the ones who are ugly.
It was so funny.
And I was like OMG..
What would you do if you were brainwashed to believe that ugliness is beautiful and beautiful is ugly.
Whatās the truth ?
Eyes of the beholder.
Yep, I think everyone has their own truth.
My image of beauty may not be someone elseās image of beauty.
What I value may not be what you value.
Itās also like the movie ā Planet of the apesā. When you go to the another planet, everything you were taught may become opposite.
Cultural differences also have this.
In the most recent news and articles, I found many people think āfigure skating is a gay sport.ā in the USA, but not for other countries.
I believe my own feeling, and not looking for otherās opinions which is popular opinions or which is correct view from other peopleās view. Numbers of opinions doesnāt show itās correct or incorrect.
Itās interesting to know otherās opinions but I just see that their views. And itās normal to have different views.
