This is unbelievable.
9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the Pacific Ocean nearby Northeastern Japan at around 2:46pm on March 11 (JST) causing widespread damage with blackouts, fire and gigantic tsunami.
Early information stated as 8.8 but after further review Japan corrected it to 9.0.
It seems that Miyagi was hit the hardest, then Fukushima, Iwate, Aomori, IbaragI , Chiba ( in the pacific coast area ), Yamagata, Niigata, Nagano, Kanagawa, Saitama..
According to an earthquake specialist, this is 180 times bigger than Hanshin ( Kobe ) earthquake ( Magnitude 7.3) which happened in 1995. And it only occurs once every 1,000 years.
And seems like aftershock earthquakes 5.0 to 6.5 magnitude have been continuing.
North side of Nagano on March 12, Miyagi, Nagano on March 13, south side of IbaragI on March 14, and also another big one magnitude 6.4 hit east side of Shizuoka area where there is Mt.Fuji and this earthquake seems different from the Northeast Japan earthquake on March 15.
And also for today, Shizuoka , Chiba and IbaragI again on March 16.
Many people still can not even sleep calmly from fear of the earthquake.
Over 300,000 people are still in shelter places in 10 different prefectures.
Because of road blockage from so many debris, not enough food, water, toilet papers, blankets, and also doctors and medicines are getting through.
There are people who felt like they were dying from starving, by not eating for 3 days in some shelters.
Also there are many elderly people who suffer from illness and they had no time to take their medicines when they ran away from Tsunami and Earthquake.
And this stressful situation is making their illness even worse.
And it seems very cold over there, and some places are snowing.
Starving, cold, sick.
They need help right now.
There are so many shelter places to send these stuff and many of them go to the worst hit places, Miyagi and Fukushima, but people in the shelters in IbaragI area were not sent enough help.
Rescue people also must be tired, they need more help.
What I can do was, I sent donation, and also sending positive vibe and love to Japan and Japanese people and everyone who lives there.
I suppose this is the worst disaster that has hit Japan since World War II.
Right now, praying for stop the earthquake, fix the nuclear power problem, immediately, and all the people who are in the shelters can get what they need, and will recover from the disaster as soon as possible. Mentally also help, to people who lost their families.
Stay strong.
And show emotions, love and care.
Japanese economy also. People need to keep spending money, because economy will go well when people spend money.
I realized that Twitter is a helpful place to get many information.
Especially this kind of situation, I could see many people are writing their situation, their true feeling, what they are doing in twitter using their I-phones. There were no such convenient things a long time ago.
And while reading each person’s twitter, some comments brought tears.
In Shelters, people are all helping each other, calmly , without having crime and selfish actions.
All is one.
This part is so beautiful, to see people so caring about each other, despite the tragedy.
The song “ Teo toriatte “ by Queen comes to mind.
When I was a child, my grandmother told me, she could survive Kanto earthquake which happened in 1923 when my grandmother was a little kid, she survived by climbing and holding on to an electric pole.
And also my dad’s story, when he got back from an elementary school , his house had gone by flash flood. His sister survived by grabbing the roof .
Both of my parents experienced disaster after the world war II. Which everything was destroyed.
Whenever I see this kind of news, it makes me even more to appreciate to have normal life, water, warm meals, comfortable place to sleep, electric light, can get anything we want when we go to a supermarket and more and more.
This is really shocking, it’s my home country, Japan.
I grew up there.
And my country is suffering now.
I appreciate anyone who are helping Japan, sending warm message to them.
How much these messages "Our prayers and thoughts are with Japanese" can make them feel better.
Through this, I could also see who are real friends, warm heart people , and also who are not.
I also learned how important it is to treat others like we want to be treated.
In twitters, I’m following some figure skaters , some celebrities, and also self improvement gurus.
It was so grateful to see warm messages to Japan from many figure skaters, Johnny Weir, Evgeny Plushenko and his wife Yana, Jeffrey Buttle, Drew Meekins, Tanith Belbin, Jeremy Abbott, Ashley Wagner, Adam Rippon, Ryan Bradley, Evan Lysacek, Rachel Flatt, Caroline Zhang, Kristi Yamaguchi, Ross Miner, Douglas Razzano, Armin Mahbanoozadeh, Denis Ten, Evan Bates.
Thank you so much to Johnny and his agent Tara Modlin about the plan for
“ one dollar of every ticket sold to ice dreams will go to Japanese Red Cross ... we will also be holding a silent auction at the event “ !
From celebrities also,
Lady Gaga impressed me again. She made “ Japan prayer bracelets “ and is selling it in her official site and all proceeds will go to Tsunami Relief Efforts.
Britney Spears , Justin timberlake, Adam Lambert, Paris Hilton,
Kelly Osbourne, Shakira, Mariah Carey and more..
And from self-improvement gurus,
Jack Canfield, Anthony Robbins, Joe Vitale,
An inspiring story,
One of the stories about 80 years old man who was rescued after 48 hours stuck in his home said,
“ no problem, no problem. It’s out of our control, so we just have to rebuild everything. “
said to the interviewer with smile.
He has experienced another tough Tsunami in the past.
Sounds very strong and makes many people feel better.
Another inspiring story,
A little kid in Tokyo went to a convenience store to buy some snacks. And while he was waiting in the line, he saw “ a donation box for the victims of Northeastern earthquake, Tsunami ” . and he put back the snacks, and instead put the money in the donation box.
The sales clerk told the little kid “ Thank you so much “ with shaking voice.
And there are many more..
Fortunately my closest aunt and uncle who lives in Kanagawa are fine , without getting any damages. My aunt talked like as if nothing was happened, at least in her house, it made me feel much better.
Each areas were hit differently, some areas catastrophically, other areas almost not at all.
My best friend who lives in Tokyo had problem inside of her house, the book case fell out and the aquarium’s water spilled out on the floor and it was so big shaking so she ran away to outside.
