The song Ave Maria was performed by several skaters, with different singers and Johnny Weir and Emanuel Sandhu’s Ave Maria have been the most magical performances for me so far.
If I didn’t watch Sandhu’s Ave Maria, there was no other competition for Johnny.
Both of their Ave Maria are breathtakingly magical which gave me goosebumps, made me tears.
Their emotion, water flow graceful movements, sensitivities, lines, expression, beauty, it was so hard to find these artists and I’m so glad to find them in men’s skating.
Johnny Weir and Emanuel Sandhu, these two artists are my all time favorites forever.
Comparing artistry of Sandhu and Johnny Weir is like trying to compare Tschaikovsky ( Piano concerto No 1, Nutcracker ) and Saint Saens ( The Swan, Danse Macabre ) and trying to decide which is better composer.
Both are just incredible.
One thing I noticed Sandhu and Weir have in common is that for both of them, their main leg they use is their left leg while skating ( such as landing leg &; main leg while spinning ), which is opposite of most other skaters.
And this signifies that they are using more of their right side ( artist & imagination side ) of their brain rather than left side ( which is the calculations, practical side. )
This may be one of the reasons I feel they are the true artists on ice.
There are other my favorite performances of them but I couldn’t find them on you tube.
For Johnny‘s, I also love his GPF 2008 EX and also US Nationals EX’2008.
If we see the jumps by themselves , these two performances were perfection. But for other parts of artistry including emotion, I love his Kaleidoscope on Ice.
It really tears me because it’s soooooo beautiful and his emotion !
For Emanuel, I forgot which event it was but one of his Ave Maria’s his beginning of expression was not even acting, but already being the character of the person he was acting and it looked so effortless. So deep.
For sensitivity and grace, totality of his movements are unbelievable.
Although he has ballet experience since childhood, but still there are many other ballet dancers who are not so graceful and seem careless for sensitive movements, when compared with Sandhu.
I suppose it’s about the artistic talent, it’s clear to see from their fingers, hands, arms and how they use their whole body.
