In day 5 of London Olympics swimming, there was the 100m free style final race.
And Nathan Adrian from USA won it !!!
Highlights: Nathan Adrian Wins Gold In 100m Free
“ U.S. swimmer Nathan Adrian wins the men's 100m freestyle in dramatic fashion, out-touching James Magnusant by one one-hundredth of a second to earn gold. “
And Yannick Agnel was also in the race.
After seeing the race, I thought 1 to 6 can probably beat each other at any given time, because they all are almost like tie breaker in the end.
As we can see from the result below, swimmers 1 through 6 all came in at the exact same second !!!
The difference in times were by fractions of a second.
Seems that whoever has the best touch to the wall, wins !!!
Here is the result of the race 100m Freestyle ,
1. Nathan Adrian - USA 47.52
2. James Magnussen - Australia 47.53
3. Brent Hayden - Canada 47.80
4. Yannick Agnel - France 47.84
5. Sebastiaan Vesture - Netherlands 47.88
6. Cesar Cielo - Brazil 47.92
7. Hanser Garcia - Cuba 48.04
8. Nikita Lobintsev - Russia 48.44
Especially Adrian and Magnussen.
They are only only 0.01 difference, almost same time, really tie breaker.
I’m still a newbie for watching swimming competitions and still learning about the system of competitions and history of Olympics swimming.
I understand depending on the theme of event , the fastest swimmers are different and we can not know clearly who is the fastest swimmer in the world.
But this race looks like all the swimmers are unbelievably super fast.
But neither Adrian or Magnussen broke the OR or WR.
This shocked me.
There were someone who were faster than these swimmers in the past ??
Then I checked the world and Olympics records.
OR - Eamon Sullivan from Australia, 47.05 ( in 2008 Beijing Olympics )
WR - Cesar Cielo from Brazil , 46.91 ( in July ’2009 )
Depending on the swimmer’s mind set and body condition, time is always different same as track & field.
For track & field, weather condition and running course also influences it.
Cesar Cielo is still holding the world record and he was 6th this time with the time 47:92.
This race is so exciting, can’t wait to see the next race for this event !
In the 2nd day of Olympics, 200m freestyle finale ,
Yannick Agnel won with the time 1:43.14.
And I thought he is the fastest swimmer in this Olympics but, realized that he also didn’t break OR and WR and Michael Phelps is still holding the Olympics record ( 1:42.96, in Beijing Olympics 2008 ).
And just imagined that when Michael was faster than Yannick Agnel’s at this race, it made me amazed.
I don’t know why Michael Phelps was not in this competition this Olympics.
In the day 6,
There was another Phelps vs. Lochte.
Lochte had another race which was backstroke.
And Lochte was the top in the semi final and heat for both events.
This is why the result made me really surprised.
For backstroke, other American swimmer Tyler Clary’s time was faster than Lochte in the semifinal so I thought he may be beaten by Clary.
And as a result Lotche was third.
1. Tyler Clary 1:53.41 (OR)
2. Ryosuke Irie 1:53.78
3. Ryan Lochte 1:53.94
These three are almost tie breaker, too.
But for individual medley , Lochte was faster about 2 second in semi-final, so I thought he would win.
Maybe he was already tired from other event backstroke final and only 30 minutes break until the individual medley event ?
But anything can happen in the final.
This time Phelps won and Lotche got silver.
But Lochte is the WR holder of this event and still holding the time.
Lochte finished all the races.
Phelps won another race 100M butterfly in the day 7 !
He still has another relay with Adrian.
It was very thrilling to watch Phelps vs. Lochte’s races.
They are very nice rivalry each other, and are very inspiring athletes.
I have a good impression for both of them.
