Happy New Year !
It's 2015 !!!
How was your new year holiday ?
I'm feeling like time flies faster and faster every year, and I feel like the more we get older, the more it gets faster, I don't know why ?
Fortunately the year of 2014 was a peaceful year for me and my husband.
I'm very grateful that we both could keep healthy without getting any health problems and have been in healthy relationship.
We will keep on caring for our health because that's the most important to have happy feeling from the bottom of our heart.
During the holiday season, ( although Ray was working in the new year's day ) we were re-watching the famous classic movie " Gone with the wind " at night.
That movie is one of my all time favorite movies.
We haven't seen it since more than 10 years ago, so suddenly I missed watching it and wanted to see it again.
When I first time watched the movie " Gone with the wind ", I became crazy about anything about it, and read the books from the series 1 to 5, and also from different author's continue story of it.
I watched this movie so many times.
So today, I would like to talk about my review of " Gone with the wind".
My review - Gone with the wind
Characters in this movie
One of the most interesting things for me in this movie and the story are the characters in it.
Biggest impact was Scarlett O'Hara , who is the main of this story, although actually my favorite characters are Melanie Wilkes and Rhett Butler.
Scarlett O'Hara - ( played by Vivien Leigh )
Vivien Leigh who played the main cast Scarlett O'Hara was of course the biggest impact, with her amazing acting and her dazzlingly gorgeous looks.
In the present time, the word " Diva" is often used by young people, especially teenagers in the USA, but I feel Scarlett O'Hara is the example of the character of " Diva ".
She looked like a killer queen and her personality is like a tornado.
I felt like if Ashley was also one of the people always surrounding her and was crazy about her, she might have not been interested in him.
She looked like she played the typical rat and cat type of relationship, like when she lost a man, she started chasing him.
Always looking at what is missing and never satisfied with her present situation.
Vivien Leigh was like a living art - a gorgeous, walking, living art.
I love seeing this type of woman from far away, but I just don't want to deal with her type of personality.
However, the great thing about Scarlett O'Hara is that she was always a responsible person, once she promised something.
I love her strength, and in contrast to her delicate looks, her manly personality as well.
I was not satisfied with the ending, because I always love a happy ending story , and wished to have continue story for this and Scarlett and Rhett finally get together happily at the end.
There was a series of books which is the continue story of it by a different author, because Margaret Michelle already passed away.
But I was not so impressed with it.
My husband said when he first time saw this movie, his eyes were glued to Vivien Leigh and was only looking at her most of the time and actually didn't remember the story of it until we recently re-watched it.
Because of her amazingly gorgeous stunning looks and her acting, he could not focus anything else. lol
We both agree that Vivien Leigh was the most beautiful woman in the world.
She is one of the reasons I really enjoy this movie.
According to the information I've watched , it took about 2 years to find the actress which perfectly fit with the character of Scarlett O'Hara.
Over 2,000 women including all the famous American beautiful actresses at that time applied the audition for Scarlett, but the movie producer David O. Selznick was not satisfied with any of the ladies in the audition.
Seems like his company spent over 4 million dollars to find Scarlett O'Hara, but it was worth it because he found the greatest fit for the charactor of Scarlett.
In the original book by Margaret Mitchell, she described Scarlett as not a beautiful woman, but I suppose the producer's image of Scarlette was beautiful look, and now everyone's image of Scarlett already became Vivien Leigh.
I personally can not imagine any other person can fit with the image of Scarlett, maybe except for the author.
I saw the photos of the author Margaret Mitchell, and thought she was attractive and was pretty. I can imagine she was surrounded by many boys.
One of the greatest things about this story is that the Author, who based the character Scarlett on herself, portrayed herself ( Scarlett ) as she was, and did not try to portray her as an angel which she was not.
The good and the bad is all there.
She was honestly describing herself through the story.
In essence there were two Scarlett O'Hara's , Margaret Michell the author, and the character which Vivien Leigh brought to life.
Everyone may want to show only the good part of themselves, but Magaret was honest.
I feel her personality also underwent a change.
Especially in her later years after she got huge success with her novel " Gone with the wind " , she lost interest in all the awards and honors, the success and the rich life, and she just wanted to live quietly, peacefully with her husband.
However, I feel like Vivien Leigh's personality and private life sounded like similar to Scarlett O'Hara's life, until the end.
Vivien Leigh got everything she wanted, she had amazingly beautiful looks, acting talent, honor, career success, men she wanted, wealthy life, and was loved by so many people in the world.
When she passed away, all her husbands ( 1st, 2nd, 3rd ) went to see her, especially, her 2nd husband, Laurence Olivier seems to have loved her forever according to his son, even after they divorced.
And it seems the only man Vivian loved so deeply was Olivier.
Why she could not be happy ?
My feeling is that she was always searching for her happiness in the outside world instead of within.
I feel her life shows a good example of how material things, or ego , can not make us happy if we don't feel from within.
It's hard to think about separately Scarlett O'Hara and Vivien Leigh's life for me, because there seem to be parallels, similarities there.
Melanie (Hamilton) Wilkes - ( played by Olivia de Havilland )
Since the first time watching this movie, I always admired Melanie's charactor.
If Scarlett is Yang, Melanie is Yin.
Scarlett is intelligent for business, but Melanie is intelligent for psychologically but not in a calculated way, but naturally, so she was loved by everyone.
It would be great to have a friend like her or if I was a man I would choose to marry with a woman like her.
She will always makes people feel happy, calm, relaxed.
The actress Olivia de Havilland was so beautiful as well.
When many other Hollywood actresses and other women were standing next to Vivien Leigh , in most cases their beauty paled next to Vivien.
But in Melanie's case, even when she was standing next to Vivian Leigh, Melanie's beauty was not deleted by Vivien's gorgeous looks.
It's a different type of beauty though.
I also felt Melanie's personality is cool, she looked like a weak quiet woman but in the important situations, she always showed strength and supported her husband and her friends.
She was full of love.
I feel this kind person is the one who has a very high frequency level.
Captain Rhett K. Butler ( played by Clark Gable )
Although I'm actually not a fan of Clark Gable, but however, the character of Rhett Butler is very cool and is interesting, and Clark Gable played it perfectly.
Some movie critics have said that there are some similarities between the Rhett Butler character and the James Bond 007 character, pointing out that both characters are good at seducing "ambivalent" women, and are "masters of maneuvering behind enemy lines".
The Rhett Butler character is adept at reading people's character and psychology.
He sometimes acts like a brat, likes to tease people ( especially Scarlett ), but is actually a kind person who always ends up helping people, especially when they are in dire situations.
Ashley Wilkes ( Played by Leslie Howard )
He is my least favorite character in this story, however the actor Leslie Howard played the charactor excellently, because I often felt frustrated whenever he was wishy washy for his feelings or giving indirect response.
Really good acting.
However, it's understandable when a gorgeous stunning lady like Scarlett was approaching, in a seductive manner , it may be hard to decline.
I think the producer was very smart to choose the best actors and actresses for each one of these characters in the story, this is why this movie got so many awards and became a legendary film.
Story
"Frankly my dear, I don't give a damn" by Rhette Butter
This was the quote from Rhett to Scarlett when he left her.
" After all, tomorrow is another day" by Scarlett O'Hara
This was the quote from Scarlett when Rhett left her and she got depressed, but then she suddenly remembered past quotes and messages from her father and Ashley and Rhett about how much important the land Tara is for her, and she realized that and decided to go back and build up Tara again.
I've read that the author Margaret Michelle wrote this book from the ending.
So maybe the point of the message in this story, which the author may have wanted to tell, is that no matter what happens in your life, never give up your life because tomorrow is another day.
I think that Scarlett and Rhett types of love relationships can happen everywhere.
and through their relationship, we can know that if there is a person we love, how important it is to give and show love to that person.
Because we may never know how long that person will be there.
Rhett didn't listen to whatever Scarlett said at the end and left her.
But if I were him, I would try one more time with her because she finally realized who she really loves and this is actually the first time she told him that she loves him, honestly.
Previously, she was not really knowing about herself.
But on the other hand, I also feel it may have been good for him to leave this time and take a rest and feel better from all the exhausted feelings , and also giving her time to think about what she really wants for a while, and then accept her love and it would be good for him to tell her he also loves her.
By doing this he would be being honest to himself.
