“ Sandhu hot on comeback trail at Skate Canada Challenge “
OMG, omg, I’m really late to this news.
Why I didn’t know about it until now ??
I’m so so so happy to hear one of my favorite skaters Emanuel Sandhu is back to competition !!!
I’m satisfied with just watching him skate, and it doesn’t really matter where they will place him or his score.
And If he could be able to relax skating, showing the best he could and showing us his wonderful artistry, it will be wonderful.
His unique movements are always interesting to see, and so fascinating.
I love his pantomime, expression, beautiful lines of his movements especially when he is turning on ice and spinning, and his sensitivity.
When he was relaxed jumping, it looked quite effortless.
Also nice to hear he could qualify to compete for Canadian Nationals in Skate Canada Challenge.
Sandhu’s words in the article,
“I am kind of nervous to perform here,"
said Sandhu, who posted a 56.46 score and was in seventh place after his skate on Saturday.
"I don't really know what to expect of myself at this competition. I can tell you that you're not going to see me doing any triple Axels and quads right now, but that wasn't part of my plan anyway."
"I just really missed being on the ice and competing and preparing for competitions,"
said the product of Richmond Hill, Ont.
"I think my last performance was in 2007 or 2008 and I was absolutely miserable then. I was not liking it at all. I was putting way too much pressure on myself. That was just not the way I intended to leave the sport."
“ It really slammed me back to what it was like when I was a lot younger," said the national champion from 2001, 2003 and 2004.
"It was almost as if I reconnected with a youth that I disconnected from quite severely. I loved working with the different choreographers because each one had a different perspective. It really opened up my creative portals and made me see things from a totally different perspective. It was a very valuable experience."
"It wasn't just the competitive nature,"
he said.
"It was really coming back in for the purest of reasons because I love to skate. Even if I do a somersault out of my jump by accident, I'm going to get up with a smile on my face and carry on. That's how I want to leave the sport. "
"No matter what happens, I just want to leave with a positive feeling in my heart."
"Come on, I'm 32 and my body isn't getting any younger,"
he said.
"I have to be gentle with my body and I have to keep reminding myself of that. For right now, it's about skating the best that I can in the time that I have had to prepare. Whatever happens next, happens next. Who knows where I'll be? "
What I remember is he stopped competing after 2006 – 2007 season.
I loved both of his programs and his performances he did in Canadian Nationals 2007.
And for world championships, he got shoes problem during short program.
Now it’s 2013, so it’s almost 6 years passed since then.
Wow!
I missed his skating, but it was also nice to see him dancing at “So you think you can dance”.
It was magical !

I loooooove his dancing, more than anyone on ice !
Emma is 32 now ?
For me it’s still young age, but in athletes world and skating competitive skating world, their body isn’t the same as when they were teens and early 20s.
I respect his braveness and his decision to challenge to back to the competition again.
Competition can be fun and it’s exciting to know who will be the winner, but performances which make me to watch over and over are more important for me.
Because after finish the competition, what I would always remember is the performance, if there was some inspiring one, and would watch it over and over in the future.
This may sound strange for many people, but my favorite Sandhu’s performance in competition was his Tango which he did World Championships 2004.
He had jumps problems in it but the artistry was breathtakingly awesome to me. Me and my husband watched it so many times because he looked sooooo cool and his movements were really really magical.
When it comes to him, more than his jumps, if he does wonderful artistry, it deletes all mistakes from my mind.
And yesterday was Men’s Short program competition in Canadian Nationals . I’m so grateful to see his SP was uploaded in youtube !
Emanuel Sandhu 2013 Canadian Nationals short program
He scored 60.42 and placed 9th for the Short program.
After 6 years blank time from competition, I think he did great ! and he looks nice and still looks young.
It was also nice the crowd was welcoming him with warm support and Emma looked happy skating.
It was something cool about he didn’t make big announcement for his come back to competition, but he just competed in Nationals event , when I noticed that.
How cool is that ? lol
Good luck, Emanuel!!!
Can’t wait to see his long program !!!
