We went to El Güero Canelo to get Sonoran Hot dogs last weekend.
I've been living here over 15 years, but I didn't know about Sonoran Hot dogs is one of the local specialty of Southern Arizona.
So last weekend, as soon as I found out about Sonoran Hot dogs, I checked the stores/restaurants where we can get it.
My husband was excited to see it because it looks very yummy in the pictures in the website.
It was Sunday afternoon so nearest restaurants which have the Sonoran Hot dogs were closed.
So we went to " El Güero Canelo". http://www.elguerocanelo.com/
It's said that the Sonoran Hot Dog,
"It originated in Hermosillo, the capital of the Mexican state of Sonora, in the late 1980s.
It consists of a hot dog that is wrapped in bacon and grilled, served on a bolillo-style hot dog bun, and topped with pinto beans, onions, tomatoes, and a variety of additional condiments, often including mayonnaise, mustard, and jalapeño salsa.
The Sonoran hot dog is prepared and sold by vendors called "dogueros" at street carts.
It was estimated in 2009 that over 200 places in Tucson purvey the Sonoran hot dog, and that Phoenix has even more. "
and the restaurant we went " El Güero Canelo" started in 1993 in Tucson.
Maybe this place is the oldest ?
It tastes very delicious !!!
We ordered normal sonoran hot dogs which has one sausage, later we found out there is another sonoran hot dog with two sausages.
Oh, well, next time we will order the two sausage ones.
We ordered two sonoran hot dogs (one each ) and one guacamole & chips.
and there is a counter bar where there are some kind of chili sauces, salsa, mushrooms, vegetables, cheese , hot peppers, and it's included for hot dogs.
Total amount we paid for them was about $10.
It was really nice to find our new discovery!
Also will try another stores sonoran hot dogs as well.
