Johnny Weir’s popularity

Probably, Johnny Weir is the most popular figure skater worldwide.  Besides his beautiful flawless clean performances at this Olympics, I’m so amazed by how many number of people are attracted by Johnny Weir’s skating every Olympics. So many new fans are just coming, coming, coming. Especially without having a big title such as Olympics gold medal, World title , Grand Prix title which many people seems to care about the most, who else is attracting so many people all over the world ? I have noticed that he attracts new fans every time he performs. Worldwide popularity Mainly, people care only for their own country’s skaters more than other country’s skaters, especially in Olympics. In the USA, Michelle Kwan and Sasha Cohen ( in majority of people ), In Korea, Yu na Kim, In Japan, Mao Asada ( and also Miki Ando , Daisuke Takahashi ), In France, Brian Joubert, In Russia, Alexey Yagudin , Evgeny Plushenko , Irina Slutsukaya, etc…  Stephane Lambiel is al...

My review - Be Good Johnny Weir Episode #4

The show started from the story about Johnny’s friend Paris moved out from the place where they used to live. I remember that it was the end of April to the beginning of May, when he just came back from the Korean ice show, and canceled his plan for his Russian trip and Russian fan meeting. We were hearing the reason was he had an apartment problem. And not so long after that, heard Paris moved out to NY. Looked like Paris moved out at a not so good time without telling Johnny about it in advance. So Johnny, his mother Patti , and his father John looked panic to help him to move out. The apartment looked expensive to live alone , so Johnny also had to move out, I also wonder about the lease renewal time. Unlike Japan, American apartment for rent is a lease system and they can not break the lease until expired. Normally 1 year, 6 month, 3 month lease.  If they broke the lease, they need to pay two month rent extra fees for the penalty when they move out if it’s not been ...

My review - Be Good Johnny Weir Episode #3

The show started from the scene, 5 days before US Nationals competition in 2009. Johnny’s struggle in the practice, especially his 3A, even spin, fight with his illness which he caught in NY and got worse in Korea. Seeing the practice scene, his condition at that time looked worse than I thought. It must have been really frustrating for him because triple axel is one of his favorite jumps, usually it’s easy for him to do it especially in practice. It’s obvious he was not ready, looked really sick. He could have withdrawn from the competition. But he knows USFSA would not give him the free pass to worlds if he withdraw from it, unlike Tanith& Ben who withdrew from it because of Ben’s injury. But somehow I thought his performances in it were beautiful even with some mistakes, he landed three combination jumps in his Free skate. Maybe I can enjoy his skating even he thinks it’s his worst performance ever. Johnny’s movements and lines are always spectacular. I loved t...

My review of "Be good Johnny Weir" Episode #2

I would like to say thank you to Johnny, and David and James, Patti, Paris and also all the people who helped to make this documentary series. This becomes my favorite TV program right now. I don’t watch TV much, and also recently I was getting less interested in movies since I haven’t got big impression for a while. This “ Be Good Johnny Weir” not only the story of one talented skater’s life, but there are a lot of humor, plus his unique character is just fun to watch. My favorite part of the episode #2 may be the scene he was modeling at the studio for the cover image of “ be good Johnny Weir”. The director was laughing, because of Johnny’s humor, while filming him. I thought it’s fantastic ! I can imagine the director's feeling, and he said that he thinks Johnny will be a pop culture star. I think not everyone can have this kind of impact on a film director. Creative besides his artistic beautiful skating talent . His acting and posing is great.    There are m...

My review “ Be good Johnny Weir” episode #1

Johnny’s documentary movie “ Be good Johnny Weir” episode #1 was on Sundance Channel last Monday, on January 18. Also episode #2 was on January 25. After getting the information, we were applying the new package which include Sundance channel at Comcast a few days before Monday. The movie was fantastic and already watched several times ! What’s so wonderful about it is because it’s about my favorite skater’s documentary. I can enjoy Johnny even when he’s just crossing the ice. I don’t know why but I just love how moves on ice.   Beginning part of his mimicking was already up in trailer, but still it was hilarious to watch, we laughed a lot. And also the hotel maid who is a figure skating fan started preaching to him about how to relax and not be nervous, this scene cracked us up. Especially Johnny’s reaction, patiently listening , nodding, politely. LOL. What she was telling him is good advice though, it’s just hilarious to see she’s trying to teach one of the...

Olympics season, skater’s mindset. US Nationals is just around the corner

OMG.. It’s already almost time for US Nationals figure skating events. Every season, ( since 2007) It’s hard to focus anything else and my mind is full about men’s event with nerves and I’m anxious, besides excitement. Especially this is Olympics season, and the result of the Nationals influences to get the spot for the USA Olympics team. However , it’s always “ mindset ” comes to my mind first before the competitions. I’ve heard that Japanese skater Miki Ando was thinking about the Olympics while she was competing at Japanese Nationals, and lost podium. She was already locked as an Olympics Japanese team member since she won Gold at two GPS events and won Silver at GPF this season. And now she sounds very nervous from pressure, and her memory of the last Olympics made her even more nervous. And I started thinking, this kind of feeling may be happening to all the other athletes, especially, Johnny Weir from USA, Brian Joubert from France, Carolina Kostner from Italy, ...
