Figure skating season has already arrived since October , and Ray and I both are really crazy for it right now.
Our favorite skater Johnny Weir changed his previous style that was very elegant, graceful to more masculine style and nothing was romantic anymore.
I was little bit disappointed for it because I thought the old style was what made him so unique and original. It's what made him stand out from the other male skaters.
It's what gave his style impact.
Although Johnny is always amazing, this new style lessens the impact. If this was the first time I saw Johnny, I would have thought he is like the other male skaters.
I'm always glad to see Johnny smile and happy. This new style for this SP is not for me.
Although I watched it three times, all I remember is that he did good jumps. And for me, it's not even about feminine or masculine style, because his exhibition program " My Way " was very masculine but it was very beautiful elegant with big impact style.
Johnny did only SP " King Of Chess " at Campbel's Cup, and also it was his brand new program, so my mind is still open for the future.
But what I felt for his " King Of Chess " was that it's not really fit him. He looked like he was trying to be more masculine that is not really fit him.
But he skated really well for his jumps and his score was 78.96 ? Technical score 42, Component score was 36,
I was upset about it, because usually his component was much higher than technical score.
Maybe I'm watching figure skating more as an entertainment than competition.
For other skaters,
The most impressive for me in this event was Miki Ando. Unlike during the Olympics, she looks more relaxed skating and her jumps were very smooth , beautiful and powerful. Her art looks elegant, and her costume was beautiful. I guess she learned some things from her friend Shizuka Arakawa. Only thing is I think she need a little more feeling with music.
Sasha is my favorite female skater , however, in this event she looked really easy going , not taking it very seriously. Not a lot of passion and energy. But always great to watch.
Takahashi is always graceful and elegant and dynamic, but it was not his day maybe.. He fell down a couple of times.
Evan was good as usual, Only things were less energy and passion , his component was not as good as Olympic and world.
Mao Asada, She fell in the first jump ( triple axel ) but she skated very good with no mistake in the rest of the program. I think she has very strong mind and didn't lose her mind balance. That's very respectful. but as Dick Button was saying, I also felt she is not feeling with music and no emotion, and no art . Maybe that's why I've never been impressed with her skating.
Kimmie looked little bit pressure and nervous from after having won last world championship. I'm not crazy about her skating but I could see her component has improved a little bit from last world champion ship.
